Elizabeth II (1990-2002)
The third version of the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was unveiled in 1990 at the age of 64. This is the first effigy designed by a Canadian artist, Dora de Pédery-Hunt. It is surrounded by the Latin inscription ELIZABETH II D G REGINA.
Coat of Arms of Canada
This version assiduously reproduces the coat of arms described in the Royal Proclamation of 1763. The four founding nations on Canada’s shield are represented by the three leopards of England, the lion of Scotland, the fleur-de-lis of France and the royal Irish harp of Tara. The lion of England unfurls the banner of the United Kingdom and the unicorn of Scotland unfurls the flag of the French Kingdom. The floral emblems commemorate royal symbols such as the English rose, Scottish thistle, French lily and Irish shamrock. The Royal Crown triumphs over the Coat of Arms described above and identifies them as that of the Sovereign of Canada.
