George VI (1937-1952)
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s father will adorn Canadian coins until her coronation in 1952. According to the value of the coin and this until 1947, its effigy will be surrounded by the Latin inscription GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP or GEORGIVS VI DEI GRA REX ET IND:IMP. The ET IND:IMP sign was removed following India’s independence in 1947.
In 1937, the caribou design by Emanuel Hahn replaced the maple leaves on the quarter to follow the trend of modernizing coins. At that time, the London Mint having a very high workload, the original manufacturing tools were made at the Paris Mint.
