Elizabeth II (2003 to present)

Canadian artist Susanna Blunt creates the most recent effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the inscription ELIZABETH II D G REGINA. A reminder to the effigy of Her Majesty’s father (1937-1952) that of George VI, who also chose to be represented without a crown.

Polar Bear

This design was created by Canadian artist Brent Townsend. Although minting on coins is more expensive, as the durability is longer than paper bills, the cost of this coin has been reduced considerably. The lifespan was estimated to be about 20 years, versus 1 year for paper. The polar bear was named Churchill, after Winston Churchill and the frequent sightings of this animal in Churchill, Manitoba.

Brilliant Uncirculated

This is the basic finish found on most standard circulation coins in Canada.
