Elizabeth II (2003 to present)

Canadian artist Susanna Blunt creates the most recent effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the inscription ELIZABETH II D G REGINA. A reminder to the effigy of Her Majesty’s father (1937-1952) that of George VI, who also chose to be represented without a crown.

Reverse Victory

On September 2, 2020, the Royal Canadian Mint is launching two new $2 circulation coins (one of which is colored) to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. Inspired by Thomas Shingles’ 1943-1945 Victory nickel, the center portion of the coin features the V of Victory, which at the time was a rallying cry to support the war effort from coast to coast. A torch is embedded in the letter which is framed by two maple leaves, all resting on the dates 1945 and 2020. The words VICTOIRE and VICTORY, as well as a message engraved in Morse code, appear on the outer ring.

Brilliant Uncirculated

This is the basic finish found on most standard circulation coins in Canada.
